Last week, we held our official launch party at one of Lawrenceville's favorite spots, Spirit, where we celebrated with our friends, family, mentors, and supporters. Many thanks to everyone who attended and for braving the weather to make it out to hear more about Trellis and what we are planning for the future. If you couldn’t make it, here is a breakdown of the event – we are sorry in advance if you experience serious FOMO (aka fear of missing out) while reading the rest of this post.
One of the things we have always believed in here at Trellis is that community support and participation is vital to creating change. We took this belief and brought it to life during our launch event by sourcing our venue, food, and drinks from growing local businesses. Spirit was the perfect location for our event, not only because it is a local favorite, but also for its support of surrounding small businesses. The Spirit team curated a drink menu using local spirits and brews as well as pizza from their in-house pizza shop, Slice Island, which features local meats and vegetables. Let’s just say, they made the experience as wonderful as we expected. With the help of Butcher on Butler, a Lawrenceville-based butcher shop, we also offered our guests tasty pulled pork sliders. Butcher on Butler, similar to Spirit, also sources local goods, in this case meat from a local farm. As if the event was locally sustainable enough, all of our plates and cutlery were compostable. We transported the event’s waste to a local farm, where it will soon live its second life!
After a bit of mixing and mingling, we took a few minutes to introduce our team and fill everyone in on what we have been working on for the last few months, which was A LOT! The rest of the evening was spent learning about our guests’ work in local food and agriculture in Pittsburgh. Through our conversations, we collected great insights, where we identified additional areas of legal need in our community. We intend to use some of these needs to help create educational legal events, so stay tuned to find out when we will host our first!
